Canva has launched a pitching competition offering five small businesses in the UK and Ireland a £4,000 grant each. The challenge, open until July 12, 2026, provides funding and mentorship to early-stage ventures.
Eligible applicants must be over 18 and represent a business, side hustle, or creative idea with 50 or fewer employees. Founders, co-founders, or designated representatives may enter.
The top 100 entries will be named Canva’s Top 100 Small Businesses and invited to an exclusive networking event. Winners receive three months of Canva Pro at no cost, access to founder sessions, and tools to improve their business storytelling.
Participants must submit a pitch deck, presentation, or video created using Canva. Judges will assess submissions based on creativity, clarity, effective use of the platform, and growth potential. A template is available to help structure pitches.
Judging runs from July 13 to July 19, 2026, with winners announced between July 20 and 26. Submissions close at 11:59 p.m. on July 12.

Lorna Bladen, Canva’s small business community manager, said the competition aligns with the company’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurs. “Turning a great idea into a growing business is difficult, especially in the early stages,” she said. “We want to create opportunities for founders to share their stories and build connections.”
This initiative mirrors efforts by other tech companies to assist small businesses. Platforms like Shopify and Meta have offered funding, training, and digital tools to help startups expand.
Additional grant programs exist for businesses focused on sustainability. Some fund energy efficiency upgrades, such as heat pumps or electric vehicle charging stations, while others support broader environmental projects.
Small businesses continue to face financial pressures, including rising costs and limited access to capital. Grants like Canva’s can provide essential support, though competition is fierce.
The £4,000 could cover startup costs like rent, inventory, or marketing. However, the mentorship and networking opportunities may prove more valuable in the long term. Finalists gain visibility and connections that extend beyond the cash prize.
With only five grants available, the acceptance rate will likely fall below 5%. Past competitions have attracted thousands of applicants despite the low odds.

Bladen did not disclose expected entries, but the company has hosted similar challenges. A previous edition drew over 2,000 submissions, though exact figures were not released.
Even non-winners benefit from refining their pitch, a skill that can aid future funding efforts. The free Canva Pro access also removes a small financial hurdle for cash-strapped founders.
Standing out requires more than a polished deck. Judges will prioritize originality, feasibility, and a clear growth strategy.
This effort highlights a shift in how tech companies support small businesses. Tools alone are not enough—capital and community matter just as much. Whether the competition delivers on that goal remains uncertain, but it provides another option for entrepreneurs.
